چکیده

A microbial fuel cell (MFC) with cathode and anode chambers was utilized to generate power while simultaneously removing COD from wastewater. By utilizing various oxidant solutions, it is possible increase the generated voltage. The chamber used for anaerobic treatment of synthetic wastewater (approximately 1000 mg/L), whereas contained solutions such as dilute hydrogen peroxide (300 KMnO4 K2Cr2O7 mg/L) Fenton reagent (H2O2/Fe(II), 300/20 mg/L). Aerobic intermittent ozonation were also tested in chamber. With chamber, highest output (382 mW/m2) obtained. At conclusion operation period, concentration decreased 1170 mg/L 650 mg/L, resulting nearly 45% removal. In use diluted H2O2 produced high densities 35 23 W/m2, respectively, other oxidants low densities. end 72 hours, content 800 333 59% removal solution. Considering cost ozonation, recommended that either aerobic or KMnO4/H2O2 should be generation.

Simultaneous wastewater treatment and biological electricity generation.

It is possible to directly generate electricity using bacteria while accomplishing wastewater treatment in processes based on microbial fuel cell technologies. When bacteria oxidize a substrate, they remove electrons. Current generation is made possible by keeping bacteria separated from oxygen, but allowing the bacteria growing on an anode to transfer electrons to the counter electrode (cathod...

Electricity production during wastewater treatment in a mediator-less MFC inoculated with aged anaerobic sludge

In this study, electricity generation integrated with organic substrate biodegradation was investigated in a continuous mediator-less microbial fuel cell with graphite electrodes and a selective type of membrane separating the anodic and cathodic compartments of MFC from each other. The performance of MFC was evaluated to treat actual domestic wastewater using aged anaerobic sludge. Results rev...
